MANABÍ

Manabí 2030: Collaborative Innovation for a Smart and Sustainable Territory

Background

The Provincial Government of Manabí stands as a pioneer in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda at intermediate government level in Ecuador. With a progressive and committed vision, it has developed its own methodology and reporting tools, setting a precedent in the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in its territorial planning.

To promote the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda, the Provincial Government’s vision is to transform Manabí into a “Smart Territory”, integrating the 4.0 competitiveness policy. It seeks that innovation and digital transformation are not only considered complementary tools, but fundamental pillars that enhance collaborative processes and act as engines of sustainable development of the province.

The HUB

The Local4Action HUB of Manabí aims at the consolidation of the province of Manabí as an SDG territory through the promotion of innovation and digital transformation. Recognizing the innovation competence of Provincial Governments, a strategy is proposed that takes advantage of Local4Action tools. This strategy aims to generate a process of capacity building in the province through MOOC courses, allowing continuous training adapted to current needs.

The Local4Action HUB seeks to establish collaborative processes, applying the methodology developed, so that the entire province can demonstrate its contributions to the 2030 Agenda. The promotion of innovation, framed in the vision of a smart territory, will be the transversal axis guiding these actions, ensuring sustainable and equitable development for all the inhabitants of Manabí.

Expected outcomes

The HUB will establish a multi-scale and multi-stakeholder process of collaboration, centered upon:

  • Capacity building aimed at strengthening capacities in the generation of innovative collaboration processes for the territorialization of the 2030 Agenda.
  • The creation of an observatory or territorial hub in the Province of Manabí that will function as a monitoring and analysis center for the 2030 Agenda. This observatory will collect, process and disseminate data related to the SDGs, integrating technologies and practices of smart territories and open government.
  • Reporting on Manabí’s progress in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, integrating smart and open territory strategies aiming to enhance transparency and collaboration in the province.
